What Audible Listeners Are Saying
5/5 stars — “Unsettled in the Best Way”
This book left me unsettled in the best way. The opening is dark, gruesome, graphic, and immediately sets the tone for a world filled with rot and hopelessness. Prepare to gag! In the middle of all that decay is Elara, the gravedigger’s daughter. She is desensitized but not broken, fiercely protective, and willing to sacrifice everything for her brother. The story shifts from visceral horror to a palace full of secrets and lies. The tension builds as Elara races against time to save her brother and begins to question everyone around her. I loved how the mystery kept twisting. Every time I thought I knew who to trust, the book proved me wrong.
The audiobook narration was excellent. Although it is dual‑narrated, Julio Maxwell only appears in a few flashbacks of the prince’s past. Jaccie Prior delivers a stunning performance, voicing both men and women with emotion and clarity. She carries the story beautifully.
