In development as a major motion picture

Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by.

Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job. She delights in donning her crisp uniform each morning, stocking her cart with miniature soaps and bottles, and returning guest rooms at the Regency Grand Hotel to a state of perfection.

But Molly’s orderly life is upended the day she enters the suite of the infamous and wealthy Charles Black, only to find it in a state of disarray and Mr. Black himself dead in his bed. Before she knows what’s happening, Molly’s unusual demeanor has the police targeting her as their lead suspect. She quickly finds herself caught in a web of deception, one she has no idea how to untangle. Fortunately for Molly, friends she never knew she had unite with her in a search for clues to what really happened to Mr. Black—but will they be able to find the real killer before it’s too late?

A Clue-like, locked-room mystery and a heartwarming journey of the spirit, The Maid explores what it means to be the same as everyone else and yet entirely different—and reveals that all mysteries can be solved through connection to the human heart.

What Audible Listeners Are Saying

5/5 stars — “Refreshing and heart warming!”
This was the most refreshing book I have listen to in a long time. It was like eating Oreos while dunking them in ice cold milk! The character Molly was really brought to life by the narrator. Excellent reading!! This is a Netflix movie. I betcha!

5/5 stars — “So Sweet And Heartwarming…”
This was one of my most anticipated for 2022 and I absolutely adored it. It was so sweet and heartwarming, and yet at the same time complex and multi-layered. I know some people are labeling this a cozy mystery. I would say that this isn’t one. I’ve certainly read enough of them to know… I’d say that this is a well crafted straight-up closed-room mystery. While this has some elements of a cozy mystery, the standard format of a cozy mystery is missing, (i.e girl moves in, discovers a murder, falls in love with cop while solving murder, gets attacked at the end by the murderer, our heroine saves the day and the murderer is arrested.) Molly was so charming to read about and she made the book for me. Reading about how Rodney and others take advantage of Molly’s trust boiled my blood. They used and abused her good, trusting nature. I was just so upset when she was framed for the murder. Molly’s story was so heartbreaking and heartwarming that it made you root for Molly all the way through the novel. And the ending was something I both saw coming and surprising as hell. An amazing debut from Nita Prose and I will definitely be reading more of her work.

5/5 stars — “A wonderful portrayal of OCD”
This is a wonderful story about a maid who has OCD in Spain. Everything always Hass to be perfect and regimented the story is a little dragged out but it is very interesting and the ending is quite different than anyone was expecting. It is a lovely story and a great portrayal of a person with true OCD
