Andy Weir’s The Martian is available on Audible as a 10 hrs 59 mins unabridged audiobook, narrated by Wil Wheaton.
Publisher’s Summary
A brand-new production of Andy Weir’s modern sci-fi classic, narrated by the incomparable Wil Wheaton, and featuring bonus content from the writings of Mark Watney.
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.
Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive – and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive.
Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first.
But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills – and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit – he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?
Wil Wheaton, who has lent his voice to sci-fi blockbusters like Ready Player One and Redshirts, breathes new life (and plenty of sarcasm) into the iconic character of Mark Watney, making this edition a must-listen for both longtime fans of The Martian and new listeners alike.
BONUS MATERIAL: This edition includes the following extras:
- “Diary of an AssCan” – Mark Watney, new astronaut
- “I Made It!” – A happy letter to Mom
- “Car Trouble” – A somewhat sad letter to Mom
- “The Earthling” – A postscript. *Available for the first time in this recording

What Audible Listeners Are Saying
5/5 stars — “Amazing narrator for about 95% of the book”
While highly overblown, the top ratings( that say that the narrator does not change for different characters) do make a point. For all the parts with the main character the narrator does a fantastic job. However in all the NASA interludes he uses the exact same voice tone and even inflection as the main character. While normally not that big of deal, the fact that there is another version where it does a much better job in those sections definitely lowers the rating. It is still a great narration and highly recommend buying. To those wondering, that is the narration by R.C. Bray and the reason seems to be a disagreement between publishers. Author owns book, another publisher owns the recording of RC, author sold to Amazon, amazon tried to buy recording, that failed, amazon tried to get original author, but that negotiation failed as well. Ah, yes. Since amazon owns the martian or has exclusivity on it (idk which one) the other publisher can’t sell it’s recording. Soo congratulations on those that have it. You just have a rare limited addition version of the audiobook!

4/5 stars — “Great book, not a fan of narration”
Love this book but not a fan of the narration. I’m not sure I would buy another book he narrated.— S. Thomas, Audible listener
4/5 stars — “Adjust speed to .9 helps narration!”
I only just started this book; it’s great so far but I agree with others the narration is irritating. Wheaton’s take on the protagonist is dripping with sarcasm even at times where that’s not clearly the intended tone and he speaks quickly like he’s reading to himself. I’ve found slowing the speed slightly to .9 helps a little!— me, Audible listener
