Narrated by Annabel Scholey and Laura Aikman, The Chef by K. L. Slater has a runtime of 8 hrs 12 mins on Audible.
Publisher’s Summary
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
When private chef, Isla Merrin accepts a summer position at Maplehurst Manor, she’s not there for the prestige or the pay. She’s there because her twin sister Clemmie worked in these kitchens and weeks after leaving, took her own life.
Nestled in the exclusive hills of the Cotswolds, behind Maplehurst’s honey-stone walls and manicured lawns lies a darker truth. Staff members flee in terror. Young women disappear into silence. And all the while, the show goes on.
As Isla uncovers a pattern of abuse hidden beneath layers of wealth, surveillance and privilege, she realises Clemmie wasn’t the first victim and won’t be the last. But exposing the truth means playing a dangerous game with people who are always one step ahead.
Some secrets are worth dying for. Others are worth killing to protect.
From international best-seller, K L Slater comes another gripping psychological thriller about power, complicity, and one woman’s quest for justice, narrated by Annabel Scholey (RIVALS, THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR) and Laura Aikman (GAVIN & STACEY).

4/5 stars — “Decent book…ending seemed rushed”
This was a decent book! I love K.L. Slater but this wouldn’t be one of my top reads from her. The ending seemed a bit rushed. There was no clear explanation of how the tape got into the hands of the police and how did they not investigate the restraint marks on the guy’s arms? I also thought the main character was itching to get herself killed. She talked so much and took a lot of risks. But overall the book wad good.— Ashley, Audible listener
5/5 stars — “Why Chef? Initially…. then “OH YA”!”
I thought it was a great story. Interesting & exciting twists & turns….lots of conjecturing by reader as well as author!— FN109, Audible listener
